Since our inaugural congress in 2016, africaSTEMI Live! has grown to become the continent’s foremost platform for cardiovascular education, live intervention, and cross-border collaboration — held annually in Nairobi, Kenya.
The 11th edition returns to Nairobi’s Argyle Grand Hotel for four days of live interventions, workshops, and scientific plenary sessions that define the future of cardiovascular care in Africa.
Register NowThe 10th anniversary edition celebrated a decade of advancing cardiovascular care across Africa. Featuring expanded live case transmission across multiple cathlab suites, the congress welcomed delegates from over 40 countries with a record international faculty lineup and a dedicated commemorative symposium on the evolution of STEMI care in Africa since 2016.
Returning to the Argyle Grand Hotel Nairobi Airport, the 2024 congress featured an expanded Interventional Village, workshops in cardiac imaging and chest pain syndromes, an acute cardiac care course, and a two-day Heart of Africa summit covering heart failure, sudden cardiac arrest, preventive cardiology, and associated risk factors.
Four workshops ran concurrently over the pre-congress days: Echocardiography (Workshop 1), Interventional Suite STEMI (Workshop 2), Acute Cardiac Care Symposium (Workshop 3) and Echocardiography Hands-On (Workshop 4). The main programme on Friday–Saturday covered Innovation in CVD including an AI vs. clinicians live challenge, Risk Management, STEMI Live! transmissions from multiple centres, and Heart Failure sessions. Faculty included more than 60 international and Kenyan specialists.
The landmark return to in-person proceedings following the pandemic was officially opened by the First Lady of Kenya, H.E. Mrs. Margaret Kenyatta. The hybrid congress attracted an international faculty from the UK, USA, Europe, and across Africa. Pre-congress workshops covered Echo & Stress Echo, Acute Coronary Intervention, and Acute Cardiovascular Care. The main programme featured STEMI Live! transmissions, Heart Failure Live!, Stroke Live!, and abstract presentations — with the best works published in a special issue of the Cardiovascular Journal of Africa. Ten major industry partners exhibited over the four days.
Continuing in virtual format for the second year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 congress maintained the tradition of live case transmission, expert faculty lectures, and abstract presentations — reaching a broader global audience through its fully online platform. The programme retained its focus on acute cardiac care, intervention, and heart failure in the African context.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced a historic pivot: the 5th edition became africaSTEMI Live’s first fully virtual congress. The organizing team rapidly adapted the programme to a digital platform, preserving the scientific quality of presentations and enabling participation from clinicians who would have been unable to travel — an experience that shaped the hybrid model used in subsequent years.
The 2019 edition at the Radisson Blu featured a dedicated abstracts book — co-branded with the Cardiovascular Journal of Africa — presenting research from across the continent on STEMI systems of care, interventional outcomes, and cardiovascular epidemiology. The congress continued to build on its live case transmission format and international faculty collaborations.
The third edition continued to expand the congress’s reach across the continent, deepening partnerships with PASCAR, the Kenya Cardiac Society, and the Stent–Save a Life! initiative. The programme evolved to include more African case presentations alongside international faculty contributions, reinforcing the congress’s commitment to contextualising global cardiovascular evidence for African practice.
Building on the debut’s success, the 2017 congress was co-hosted with the Stent–Save a Life! global initiative — an international effort to improve access to primary PCI and reduce mortality from acute coronary syndromes. The interactive three-day programme showcased the latest developments in heart attack management, with live cases, learning sessions, and industry symposia drawing delegates from across the continent and beyond.
The inaugural africaSTEMI Live! congress launched in Nairobi with a bold vision: to create the continent’s foremost international platform for professionals managing acute cardiac syndromes. Organised by Heart and Life Conferences in partnership with PASCAR, the meeting brought together physicians, interventionalists, echocardiographers, and nurses in a format that blended live case transmission with evidence-based education. A historic first for cardiovascular medicine in Africa.
